[Excerpt from Orefici #5, performed by Terry B. Ewell]
Well, we have just completed the fifteenth study that I find so transcendent with emotions and meaning and so ephemeral that I had no words with which to describe it. In contrast, study sixteen is well grounded and easier to speak about for me. Frankly, it is just simply delightful.
A verse from Psalm 37 comes to mind, “Delight yourself also in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
I am struck by the fact, however, that Orefici just misses making the etude even more delightful. Unlike most of the etudes in this collection that are in ternary form, ABA, this one is composed in two parts with a coda section. However, just by adding a few measures from the beginning before the last line makes this etude a charming miniature Rondo form. My performance will include those added measures just to bring a smile to your face and uplift your heart.
Just a couple of technical issues here. There are many articulations missing from the study. I counted over 25 staccato markings missing. Most of those occur on the last slurred note after sixteenths.
The D#4s when slurred to from leaps sometimes will not respond well with three fingers down in the right hand. The first example occurs in measure 5. For those passages, I suggest lifting the index finger in the right hand.
Now, please enjoy this delightful composition.
