Philip P. Bliss, "It is Well
with
my Soul" (trio)
This hymn has been a comfort to many who have lost loved
ones. The text is penned by
Horatio
Gates Spafford who suffered several tradgedies. His son was
killed in the 1871 Chicago Fire. Just a few years later he lost his
four daughters in a shipwreck while they were traveling with his
wife. Spafford's wife
Anna survived and sent him the now famous
telegram, “Saved alone.”
Several weeks later, as
Spafford's own ship passed near the spot
where his daughters died he was inspired to pen the
words
to this hymn.

"March 1st Church Work" (trio, manuscript copy)
It is called "March 1st Church Work" because it was
performed
during church service on March 1st in 1981 or 1982. The flute part on
the whole will work for oboe as well. This medley includes "Just as I
am," "Turn your eyes upon Jesus," "Amazing Grace," and "Great is Thy
faithfulness."
