Philip P. Bliss, "It is Well with my Soul" (trio)

This hymn has been a comfort to many who have lost loved ones. The text is written by Horatio Gates Spafford who suffered several personal tragedies. He lost his son in the 1871 Chicago Fire. Just a few years later his four daughters died in a shipwreck while they were traveling with his wife. Spafford's wife Anna lived and sent him a telegram with two words--“Saved alone.” Several weeks later when Spafford's own ship passed near the spot where his daughters died he wrote the words to this hymn. The hymn in Spafford's hand.

It is called "March 1st Church Work" because it was performed during church service on March 1st in 1981 or 1982. The flute part on the whole will work for oboe as well. This medley includes "Just as I am," "Turn your eyes upon Jesus," "Amazing Grace," and "Great is Thy faithfulness."
